A Mare Subiu: A Women's Event
Capoeira Brasil New York- Instructors Joy, Tuzinho and Esquilo
Supervised By Mestre Boneco
Mission Statement:
Raising the Level of Play
At CBNYC, we believe one of the best ways to promote gender equality in capoeira is to foster the development of female capoeiristas who are confident in the way they play and who are assertive, powerful individuals. The event's workshops will thus seek to raise the level, technique, and confidence of female capoeiristas.
Objectives:
To raise the level, technique, and confidence of female capoeiristas by offering workshops targeted to women's specific needs.
To bring together female capoeiristas from around the world, creating a space where women are not outnumbered, often for the first time.
To expose all participants, male and female, to high-ranking female capoeiristas and teachers.
To create a safe space for women and men to discuss the effects of gender difference in capoeira.
To create a more supportive environment for female capoeiristas through education and empowerment.
To overcome gender discrimination and inequalities in the capoeira community.
To exclude neither men nor women from workshops, rodas, and discussion panels.
To celebrate capoeira, and the growing role of women within it.
